I have been very open and honest with the fact that I broke the rule of "no more bottle" at age one with Ava. I had my reasons though. She was having multiple surgeries and the bottle was soothing for her. The time has come now to say bye bye to her beloved friend, and I need HELP!!! You see when Frankie stopped the bottle, bye bye went the milk as well. I just refuse to let this happen again. I want my girl to drink her milk. Today is the first day of no more bottle and it started off good, but now its getting rough.
I picked her up these Tommee Tippee sippy cups at Target yesterday.
When she had her breakfast this morning she drank her milk out of them, SCORE!!! She never drank milk out of any other sippy I had offered so I was amazed. I told her it was her big girl cup and she loved it. But now big girl is getting tired and its almost nap time and she wants her bottle. I didn't give in, I offered her milk in this cup again, except now I'm getting it thrown at me and its 2:41 and my sleepy little toddler is still crying and not napping. So I turn to you guys!! Help!! Please!! Did your child continue to drink milk when the bottle was taken away? What cup do you use? Any words of wisdom for a tired pregnant momma??

We just got rid of the bottles last month & Peyton turned 2 in November. My reasoning was similar, she had surgery, she had to lay on her back for 3 days, she has medical issues and bottles are not our biggest concern. I did decide though, that it was time and day 1 was the worst. She screamed and cried and cried. Luckily the paci is what puts her to sleep (still have to take that away!) My advice, stick to your guns, be calm about it, ignore her pleas and just keep offering the cup. Day 2 had one meltdown and day 3,4,5 she asked for bottle but accepted cup.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Hope she keeps up the good work! I loved Tommee Tippy bottles but HATED their straw sippies, never bought this kind though.
ReplyDeleteHi Jill! Thanks so much for joining the blog hop this week!
ReplyDeletePlaytex sippy cups were the boys favorites! Avent ones were second on the list. Best of luck Mama!
ReplyDeleteWe are having issues with Charlotte not being able to drink from a sippy at all. Both boys were easy as pie and started at 4 months. C is 9 and does not "get it" yet. We may have to break the no bottle rule after one too just because she does not understand the sippy.
Both my boys did really good going from bottle to sippy cup with milk. I started making the switch with nap first then bedtime. I guess we got lucky with this. And they would take it out of any cup but i always liked the playtex cups.I don't have any tips for you.. Sorry Mamma but just keep trying.
ReplyDeleteNap time is harder without bottles or pacifiers for us too... We either have to drive my daughter around in the car or get lucky. Having a luvvie really helps... She has this dog called Violet that sings for 10 minutes and that really puts her to sleep. Having a sippy cup never took the place of a bottle either. It was 2 completely different things. And at 18 months, she started drinking out of a regular cup instead. She drinks milk fine out of a regular cup. I got her drinking whole milk by mixing a little honey in with it. Some kids like milk better when it's slightly warmed. You could also try enriched almond milk, my daughter loves that. You could always just give her other foods rich in calcium and/or a calcium vitamins. And don't feel bad, my daughter didn't give up bottles or pacifiers until she was over 2 years old. Unfortunately I was dumb and used them to wean her off of breastfeeding lol.
